Ruby Ibarra, a rising Filipina American rapper from the Bay Area, recently delivered a stunning performance at the Tiny Desk concert, which is renowned for launching the careers of artists like Fantastic Negrito and Tank and the Bangas. With her multilingual, intergenerational band and passionate rapping in Tagalog, Waray, and English, Ibarra captivated the judges and the audience.

Born in the Philippines and raised in the Bay Area, Ibarra draws inspiration from her cultural heritage and immigrant experiences for her music. Her career highlights include founding the record label Bolo Music Group, releasing the album "Circa 1991" addressing social justice issues, and being featured in national commercials and documentaries. Ibarra's style is reminiscent of 1990s hip hop, influenced by artists like Lupe Fiasco and Raekwon.

Apart from her musical endeavors, Ibarra is a UC Davis graduate who previously worked as a scientist and co-founded the Pinay Rising scholarship program for Filipina students in higher education pursuing arts or social work fields. In 2024, Ibarra announced her pregnancy coinciding with the release of her music video "Bakunawa," adding a new chapter to her already impressive journey in the music industry.
